Going Green in NE Nebraska

Posted: 08 February, 2010

Northeast Nebraska communities are working to make their mark on the world more green.

Ken Curry, NPPD Energy Efficiency Manager, says the Nebraska Public Power District is offering energy efficient solutions for leaders to bring home.

“Individually we can make a difference, every little thing that we do adds up to a big thing that we all benefit from. It makes sense for us to help our customers use less of our product. Its good for them, it cuts their bills. It’s good for us because it’s less expensive to save a kilowatt hour than it is to build or to generate”.

Wayne Mayor Lois Shelton plans to bring what she learned last week back to the council. “We just have to help educate everyone about the importance of sustainability and what we can do to make the future a better place to live” said Shelton.

NPPD says alternate energy sources include wind and nuclear power. But there are ways to cut back on your current energy use. A free energy audit found ways to save Wayne State College more than $70,000.
