Hartington CC, Emerson-Hubbard and Randolph head to State, Cat women #2 seed tournament, Baseball team gets nipped, Softball team gets no-hitter, Big 12 tournament begins, Wayne youth basketball results & baseball sign-up

The Nebraska boys state basketball tournament begins Thursday in Lincoln.  KTCH and KCTY will be following three area teams—Hartington Cedar Catholic, Emerson-Hubbard and Randolph.
 
The Wayne State women’s basketball team has advanced to the NCAA Central Regional at Fort Lewis of Colorado. The Cats will play Colorado State-Pueblo at 2pm (CST) Friday.  WSC is the number two seed behind host Fort Lewis. It’s the 3rd NCAA tournament appearance for the Cats in the past five seasons.  The semi-finals are set for Saturday and the title game for Monday night at 8pm.
 

In college baseball yesterday in Evansville Indiana, Southern Indiana scored 3 runs in the 8th inning and nipped Wayne State 4-3.  WSC will continue its spring break trip tomorrow and Thursday when they play Upper Iowa in games to be played at Topeka Kansas.
 

Amber Baird and Katie Goetzinger combined on a no-hitter yesterday as the WSC softball team shut out Millersville (PA) 2-0 at Clermont Florida.  Later in the day, the Cats topped Post University of Connecticut 8-2 to improve to 8-2 over-all and 5-1 on the spring trip.
WayneStatewill be off today but will return to action tomorrow in two games.

 
The Big 12 basketball championships begin later this week in Kansas City. In the men’s portion of the tournament, Nebraska will play Missouri tomorrow at 2pm at the Sprint Center.
The Nebraska women, the #1 seed get a first round bye and will play either Texas Tech or Kansas State at 11am on Friday morning at the Municipal Auditorium in KC.

 
In youth basketball this past weekend, the Wayne 8th grade boys team was 2-1 in the Norfolk Panther Tournament.  Wayne boys beat Norfolk 42-39 and Columbus 44-33 before losing Millard West 47-40.
The Wayne 4th grade boys team finished 3rd in the state YMCA tournament in Fremont.
 

Registration for Wayne Little League and Pony League baseball will be held for the final time tomorrow night from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Community Activity Center.  Call 375-4803 for more information.
