
Boys State Basketball Coverage Starts Today, WSC Women Play Tomorrow, Husker Men Upset #5 Missouri and Other Sports Notes

The Nebraska boys state basketball tournament begins today in Lincoln. Games to be aired on SuperHits Y104.9FM—
10:45am—Emerson-Hubbard vs. Humphrey
2:00pm—Randolph vs. Overton
3:45pm—Hartington Cedar Catholics vs. Fremont Bergan
The WSC women’s basketball team will play Colorado State-Pueblo tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.
The Cats have won 15 straight games and are 26-4 overall on the season.
Sophomore Ashley Arlen of Wayne State has been named to the 2010 Daktronics All-Central Region first team. Arlen, from Cascade Iowa, averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game
The Wayne State baseball games scheduled for yesterday and today against Upper Iowa in Topeka were called off because of wet grounds. Cats will return to action on March 16that Emporia State.
The WSC softball team won a pair of shutouts yesterday in Florida, 1-0 over Belmont Abbey and 3-0over American International (Mass). The Cats will windup their southern trip today with games against West Chester (PA) and Merrimack College (Mass)
In the Big 12 men’s post-season tournament yesterday, the #12 seed Nebraska Big Red upset the #5 seed Missouri 75-60. Huskers will play Texas A&M this afternoon at 2pm; you will be able to hear the game on Country 1590.
The women’s part of the Big 12 tournament will begin today. The #1 seeded Nebraska women drew a first round bye and will play either Texas Tech or Kansas State tomorrow morning at 11am.
Nomar Garciapparra has retired as a member of the Boston Red Sox. The 1997 American League MVP signed a one-day contract with his former team then announced he’s ending
his 14-year career to become an analyst for ESPN. Nomar spent the last 5 seasons with the Cubs, Dodgers and A’s. The 6-time All Star had a career batting average of .313.
Free agent running back LaDaimian Tomlinson will visit with the Minnesota Vikings today. The 2006 MVP was released by the San Diego Chargers last month. The Vikes are in need of another running back since backup Chester Taylor signed with the Chicago Bears.
