     George W.  Biermann was born January 9, 1929, on a farm in rural Wayne County near Altona to William F. and Frieda (Launhardt) Biermann.  He was the fourth of eight children.  He attended Wayne County School District #32 east of Altona and graduated from Wisner High School in 1946.  He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 attaining the rank of Corporal and was stationed at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.  George married Elaine  Mae Hurd August 26, 1956 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne.  The couple lived in Altona before moving to Elaine’s parent’s farm southeast of Wayne where they farmed and had a dairy herd.  Over the years George was an Archer Oil salesman, 4-H Leader, Farm Bureau officer, and served on various other boards.  In August of 2005 he received the Oldest Active Farmer Award from Wayne County Farm Bureau.  On February 15, 2003, George married Darlene (Peterson) Gathje at Our Savior Lutheran Church.  They continued to live on the farm until the present time.
     George is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, Brian (Sharolyn) Biermann of Wayne; step sons, Randy (Chris) Gathje of Omaha and Rick (Sandra) Gathje of Wayne; grandchildren, Brandon and Jessica Biermann of Wayne, Casey Gathje of Curtis, Dusty Gathje of Omaha, Jon Gathje of St. Paul, MN, and Christina (Kevin) Modrell of Omaha and their son, Koby; brothers, Carl (Dorine) Biermann of Fremont, Herbert Biermann of Grand Blanc, MI, Paul (Lavon) Biermann of Wayne, and Walter (Saundra) Biermann of Wisner; sisters; Dorothy (Wesley) Schutte of Wisner and Ellen (Bob) Strelow of Oakridge, OR;  brother-in-law, Roy (Sharon) Hurd of Springfield, MO; sisters-in-law, Mitzi (Glenn) Suhr of Norfolk and Cindy (Ed) Milligan of Wayne; nieces and nephews.
     George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine in 1998; sister, Esther Meyer, four in-laws, a nephew, and a niece.
