A boil order in effect for the Omaha Indian Reservation may be lifted today, according to Omaha Tribal Utilities
Commission officials. Macy residents have been instructed to boil their water before drinking, cooking and bathing, following four days of power surges at the reservation's well houses, which began July 16. Garrett Marr, waste water operator for the Tribal Utilities Commission, said several leaks to the town's aging water infrastructure system went unreported for days.Marr said he collected two water samples to be tested for E.coli and other contaminates. The second water sample requested by the Environmental Protection Agency was sent to Lincoln, Neb., Wednesday. According to Marr the boil order could be lifted today depending on the outcome of the tests.
PROPANE FIRE IN YANKTON
YANKTON(AP)-- Fire officials in Yankton say a propane leak at an auto shop could have been much worse. Crews responded to the leaking propane-powered tow truck early Thursday. Deputy Fire Chief Larry Nickles says they used water fog to dissipate the propane while working to shut off the leak. About one-third of the 80-gallon tank leaked. Nickles says a lighted cigarette or a vehicle starting up could have ignited a fire. Firefighters resolved the situation in about an hour.
