Wakefield Advances to Second Round of State Tournament

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Wakefield Seniors responded with three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead from Alma.  They would hold Alma scoreless the rest of the game, while also scoring a run in each of their last four innings at the plate to advance to the second round of the Class C American Legion State Baseball Tournament with a 7-2 victory.  Mason Nixon, playing in his final game before he heads to Afghanistan with 134^th Army Calvary with the Nebraska National Guard, entered the game in the third, striking out 10 batters and allowing no hits in five innings.  Wakefield will now take on David City on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Cody Park/Legion Field in DeWitt.  You can hear the game LIVE on Super Hits Y 104 and online at waynedailynews.com.
